Lopi 12 No. 29 — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
Three sizes by the child’s height — 140, 152 and 164 cm — with a chest of 92, 97 and 102 cm, 54 to 62 cm long to the front neck and sleeves of 35 to 41 cm. The chest is roomy for those heights (our reading), so compare it with a sweater that fits.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for the 164 cm size: 5 balls of chocolate heather, 3 of white and 2 of black sheep heather — 10 balls. The 140 cm size uses 4 of chocolate heather and 2 of white, the 152 cm size 4 of chocolate heather and 3 of white. The pattern gives the same amounts for both versions. In this one the rib and neckband are white too, so more of the white is used than in the blue version — by our rough calculation the 3 balls still leave some to spare in the largest size.
Is the pattern for both colour versions?
Yes — the leaflet has one set of instructions and charts for No. 28 (blue) and No. 29 (brown), and the chart key gives the colours for each. This kit has the yarn for the brown No. 29; the blue No. 28 is sold as a separate kit.
Anything to watch for?
On the sleeves, the pattern says Chart 1 “does not work out” in sizes 140 and 152: 38 and 40 stitches do not divide by the 6-stitch border, so the border breaks where the round starts, under the arm — knit on as written. In size 152 each sleeve puts 10 stitches on the underarm holder and the body 9, so you graft 10 stitches to 9.
The chart key says “87” — which colour is that?
A misprint for 0867, chocolate heather, the main colour, as the materials list gives it. Knit the empty squares in chocolate heather.
Which photo shows this version?
The girl on the left in front of the horses — the brown No. 29. The bandana under her collar is not part of the pattern, and the boy beside her wears Lopi 12 no. 27, a different pattern, sold as its own kit. The boy with the dog wears the blue No. 28, also sold as a kit, with blue tweed in place of the original blue.
What does the kit with needles include?
A 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle in 60 cm; 6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40 and 60 cm; 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The sleeve instructions use 6 mm double-pointed needles, but the materials list leaves them out; the kit with needles includes them.
