From Iceland, this pure wool yarn is renowned for its tradition of quality. Icelandic wool is lightweight, warmer, and more water-resistant than any wool found elsewhere. Through our long tradition of making the top knitwear, we have developed the wool which ensures as much protection as possible from the extreme weather conditions.
The Icelandic wool sweaters are made of Icelandic sheep which, with their unique properties, make Lopi a high quality yarn. Icelandic woolen fleece is double layered, and just like the sheep are kept warm and dry, the wearers of Lopi sweaters are guaranteed the same experience. The inner layer of light fine fibers is soft and rippled with lots of insulation to keep you protected against the cold, while the outer fibers are long and sturdy yet smooth - and as such are water-repellent. The fibers are uneven, and they create air spaces when loosely bound together. The two layers combine to create a light but sturdy water-repellent yarn.
