Ranga Black Cardigan sweater — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
There are four sizes — S, M, L and XL — with a chest of 89, 94, 98 and 103 cm all round (35–40½″). The body is 36–42 cm long to the underarm and the sleeves 46–49 cm, depending on size.
Do I have to cut my knitting?
Yes, up the front. The body and yoke are knitted in the round with a purl stitch at each end of the round. You sew twice by machine with small straight stitches through each chain of purl stitches, then cut between the rows of stitching. The zipper is sewn in under the front edge, so no bands are knitted.
What kind of zipper do I need?
A zipper with two slides. The pattern has you sew it under the front edge twice with thread in a matching colour — first from the right side where the edge is folded, then slip-stitching the edge from the wrong side. The zipper is not in the kit.
Why are there two different yarns?
The rib at the hem and cuffs and the collar are knitted in Álafosslopi on 6 mm needles; the body, sleeves and yoke in Léttlopi on 4.5 mm. The pattern’s gauge is for the Léttlopi: 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the XL amounts: 2 balls of Álafosslopi 0005 black heather and 1 of 0054 light ash heather, plus 8 balls of Léttlopi black heather and 3 of light ash heather. Sizes S to L use 6 or 7 black and 2 or 3 ash in Léttlopi, so you will have one to three Léttlopi balls over.
What does the kit with needles include?
ADDI needles: 6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40 and 60 cm, 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm, and 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles.
