The label “8 RANGA” is printed on the photo. The leather skirt and the black tights are not part of the pattern, and the zipper is not included

Why you'll love it

  • Purl stitches in the yokeMost of the second-colour stitches in the yoke chart are purled rather than knitted.
  • Two weights of lopiDeep rib at the hem (11–12 cm) and cuffs (14 cm) and an 8 cm collar in Álafosslopi on 6 mm; the rest in Léttlopi on 4.5 mm.
  • A two-way zipperThe front is cut open and a zipper with two slides is sewn in under the edges — no bands to knit.
  • Straight sleevesAll the sleeve increases come in one round above the cuff; from there the sleeves go straight up.

Good to know

Ranga — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes — all are still made by Ístex, in both Álafosslopi and Léttlopi: black heather (0005) and ash (0054) for the black version, chocolate (0053) and black (0059) for the brown. Our shop calls 0053 acorn heather and 0054 light ash heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — S, M, L and XL — with a chest of 89, 94, 98 and 103 cm all the way round, 36, 38, 40 and 42 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 46, 47, 48 and 49 cm to the underarm. The printed chest includes the 2 purl stitches up the front, which are sewn, cut between and folded under for the zipper — about 1 cm (our calculation).
How much yarn do I need?
Both colours take the same: Álafosslopi in 100 g balls, 2 of the main colour (A) and 1 of the collar colour (B); Léttlopi in 50 g balls, 6 (7, 7, 8) of the main colour (C) and 2 (2, 3, 3) of the pattern colour (D) — and a zipper with two slides.
Do I have to cut my knitting?
Yes. The body and yoke are knitted in the round with a purl stitch at each end of the round. When you weave in the ends, pull those next to the purl stitches through to the right side; then sew twice by machine with small straight stitches through each chain of purl stitches and cut between the seams. The zipper is sewn in under the front edge twice with thread in a matching colour — first from the right side where the edge folds, then the edge is slip-stitched from the wrong side.
How is the yoke chart read?
It starts at the right (“begin”) with the purl stitch of the right front and ends at the left (“end”) with the purl stitch of the left front; between them is an 8-stitch repeat and 7 more stitches. Dark squares are the main colour and white squares the pattern colour; a dash means the stitch is purled, and most of the white squares have one. The decreases are p2tog in the pattern colour on rounds 21, 27, 36 and 43, and k2tog or ssk in the main colour on rounds 47 and 50.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. The collar says “in first rnd”, but it is knitted back and forth, so it is the first row. The pattern gives no zipper length and no gauge for the Álafosslopi rib, and its list leaves out a sewing machine, stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The cardigans are; the zippers are in the pattern’s list but are not included. The leather skirt and the black tights in the black photo and the jeans in the brown photo are not part of the pattern.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the black version; a page with a small photo of each colour, the sizes, the materials for both, gauge, notes, the body, the sleeves, the chart and its key; a page with the yoke, the collar, the finishing and the zipper; and Ístex’s back cover.
