Description

Garri is a classic Icelandic lopapeysa with a stylish shawl collar, knitted in chunky Álafosslopi in natural wool shades of light ash, light indigo and black heather. Originally designed as a men’s sweater, its loose fit also makes a wonderfully cozy women’s sweater — the pattern gives separate sleeve lengths for both.

Closures: the pattern calls for 6 press studs. In our experience clasps and studs can tear the collar over time, so we recommend sewing on buttons instead — available separately.

I had one of these sweaters made for me 4 years ago. It is the lightest, yet warmest sweater I own.

I enjoyed knitting this sweater for my son and he loves it!
I did find the split neck/ collar tricky but managed in the end with the help of more experienced knitters.

I knit this pattern for my son and it looks beautiful on him. The pattern was mostly easy to follow but it could do with a few more photos, especially around the opening in the neck. I felt like I was guessing to what it should look like. First time knitting this type of opening, so that was interesting. Also, I tend to knit tight so I actually knit the XL size which turned out to be smaller than anticipated. Overall, I loved the knitting pattern and wool. Delivery was quick and price was decent.

This sweater pattern is so gorgeous and manly! My son and father both loved their sweaters in this pattern. The Alafoss lopi is so warm for outdoor activities, even in our cold Canadian winters!

I've never knitted a lopapeysa — can I manage a kit?

Many of our customers knit their first lopapeysa from one of these kits. Choose a one-colour or simple-yoke design to start, and warm up with our free patterns. Stuck mid-project? Write to us — we knit these ourselves.

What exactly is in the box?

The knitting pattern and the genuine Ístex lopi yarn for the design. On most kits you can add needles as an option at no fuss.

Which yarn do the kits use?

Most use Léttlopi — the classic lopapeysa yarn — while some designs call for Álafoss Lopi, Plötulopi or Einband. Each kit page says which.

Do US orders pay customs on delivery?

No — duties and taxes are settled at checkout, so nothing is due when the parcel arrives. No customs bills, no courier fees.
