Good to know

Stafir — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — S to XL — with a chest of 80, 89, 98 and 106 cm, 58 to 64 cm from hem to underarm and sleeves of 45 to 48 cm. The pattern gives no total length; in the photos the dress reaches the upper thigh.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for XL: 11 balls of dark grey heather, 3 of white and 1 of black — 15 balls. S and M use 9 balls of dark grey heather, L 10.
The chart is printed in blue — how do I knit the grey dress?
Follow the grey column of the key: knit the blue squares in dark grey heather, the black squares in white and the red squares in black. The white squares are not white yarn — they mean “no stitch”, where stitches have been decreased. Some rounds are skipped in the smaller sizes, as marked beside the chart.
Will the little motif sit at the centre front?
Not in every size. Following the layout printed for each size, it lands within a few stitches of the centre front in M and XL, but about 16 stitches towards the left sleeve in S and about 9 in L (our calculation). To centre it in S or L, knit on 16 (S) or 9 (L) more stitches in the main colour before the first chart round and start the chart from there.
How is the collar made?
In white: 2 cm of K1, P1 rib, then 15 cm of K2, P2 rib, cast off very loosely and worn folded over as a turtleneck. The pattern names no needle for the collar; the 4.5 mm 40 cm circular you finish the yoke on will do (our suggestion).
Is the blue dress in the photos the same pattern?
Yes — the blue version, with a black yoke and collar, is sold as a separate kit.
What does the kit with needles include?
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm; a 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle in 80 cm; 3.5 mm and 4.5 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The pattern gives the longer circulars as 60–80 cm; the kit has 80 cm.
