Good to know

Stafir — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
For the grey dress, yes: dark grey (0058), white (0051) and black (0059) are all still made by Ístex. For the blue dress, heaven blue (1402) and black (0059) are; light red (1408), used only for the one small motif, is no longer made. Our blue kit uses crimson red (9434) for the motif — a stronger, deeper red than the rose-red in the photo. Our shop calls 1402 heaven blue heather and 0058 dark grey heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — S to XL — with a chest of 80, 89, 98 and 106 cm, 58 to 64 cm from hem to underarm and sleeves of 45 to 48 cm. The chest matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge (our check). The pattern gives no total length; in the photos the dress reaches the upper thigh.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls, the same for both versions: A 9 (9, 10, 11), B 3 and C 1 in every size — 13 balls in S and M, 14 in L, 15 in XL. Blue: A heaven blue, B black, C light red. Grey: A dark grey, B white, C black.
How do I read the chart?
The chart is printed in the blue dress’s colours, and the key gives two codes for each square, blue first and grey second: blue squares are A (1402 / 0058), black squares B (0059 / 0051) and red squares C (1408 / 0059). So for the grey dress, knit the blue squares in dark grey, the black squares in white and the red squares in black. The white squares are not a colour — they mean “no stitch”, where stitches have been decreased. Some rounds are skipped in the smaller sizes, as marked beside the chart.
Will the little motif sit at the centre front?
Not in every size. Following the layout printed for each size, it lands within a few stitches of the centre front in M and XL, but about 16 stitches towards the left sleeve in S and about 9 in L (our calculation). To centre it in S or L, knit on 16 (S) or 9 (L) more stitches in the main colour before the first chart round and start the chart from there.
How is the collar made?
In B — black on the blue dress, white on the grey. After the yoke, 1 round is knitted with 0 (3, 4, 7) stitches decreased, to 70 (72, 76, 78); then 2 cm of K1, P1 rib, an increase round to 92 (92, 96, 96) and 15 cm of K2, P2 rib, cast off very loosely and worn folded over as a turtleneck. The pattern names no needle for the collar; the 4.5 mm 40 cm circular you finish the yoke on will do (our suggestion).
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with the materials for both versions, the sizes, gauge, the body, sleeve and yoke instructions and two photos; a page with the collar, finishing, the yoke chart and the colour key; and Ístex’s back cover.
