The pattern gives no gauge: the beret is knitted on 3 mm needles in Einband, from the centre out, and its size comes from the stitch counts.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the centre outward: a circular cast-on of 9 stitches in black heather on double-pointed needles, then yarn-over increase rounds that double the stitches — 18, 36, 72, 144, 288 — with three lace patterns from the chart in almond, white and grey between them. Then two decrease rounds down to 96 stitches and 6 cm of 1×1 rib in black heather, bound off loosely in rib.
