Q: Which size should I choose?

Lay a sweater that already fits you well flat and measure straight across the chest just under the arms, then match that number to the chest width column in the size table. Kátir Karlar runs a little closer than our three-strand men's sweaters: size L is 54 cm (21.3 in) across, where Fennrir in L is 57 cm (22.4 in). We cannot alter a sweater, so pick the nearest size.

Q: Is it warm enough for a real winter?

Yes. Two strands of Plötulopi knitted together make a thick, dense fabric, a step lighter than our three-strand sweaters such as Fennrir. Ístex, the mill that makes the wool, describes Icelandic wool as lightweight, water-repellent and highly breathable, with fine inner fibres that insulate and long outer fibres that resist the weather.

Q: How does it feel to wear?

Dense and warm, with the dry, springy hand of Icelandic wool. A lopapeysa is worn over a shirt or a long-sleeved top, the way Icelanders wear theirs, and worn that way it is comfortable all day.

Q: How do I wash it?

By hand, in lukewarm water, with a mild wool soap such as Lopisápa. Swish it gently without rubbing or twisting, rinse in lukewarm water, press the water out without wringing, and lay it flat on a towel to dry away from direct heat and sun. Store it folded, somewhere cool and dry, and not in a plastic bag.

Yes. An unused sweater in its original condition can be exchanged for another size under our return policy, linked at the foot of every page. Return postage is yours to pay unless the sweater is faulty or the mistake is ours.

Drying: Press out excess water without wringing, and lay the sweater flat on a towel to air dry. Avoid hanging or exposing it to direct heat or sunlight.

I Love My New Sweater

I ordered this authentic sweater for an upcoming wedding in Iceland this Fall. I am an odd size but finally got my measurements right and sent in. The sweater fits great. Too hot here in July in the Southern US so I really won't get to wear it much until much later. Customer service was great, quality is great. I highly recommend The Icelandic Store!
