Description

The US Flag Lopapeysa by Olga Begak combines classic lopapeysa construction with a striking flag-inspired design. Knit in Léttlopi by Ístex, the sweater features alternating red and white body stripes and a blue yoke filled with white stars for a bold, graphic look.

Body and sleeves are worked in the round from the lower edge to the underarms, then joined to work the yoke in the round. The sweater combines striped body and sleeve sections with a star colorwork yoke.

Which size should I knit?

Women's XS to XL have a chest of 89, 89, 98, 107 and 115 cm and men's S to XXL 89, 98, 107, 115 and 123 cm (35 to 48½″). Women's XS and S share a chest size but S has longer sleeves. Men's sizes are longer in the body, 41 to 49 cm to the underarm against 38 to 44 cm.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit holds 6 balls of crimson red, 6 of white and 3 of lapis blue, the amount for men's XXL. Women's XS and S use 4 red, 4 white and 2 blue, so smaller sizes leave several balls over.

How are the stripes worked?

After 10 rounds of red ribbing you continue in red, then change to white, and so on: six stripes, the last one white, then you start the seventh, red stripe before joining for the yoke. The pattern gives the number of rows in every stripe for each size.

Any tips for the sleeves?

The designer recommends the magic loop method for the sleeves; it helps you avoid bunching as you increase and work the stripes. On the yoke she suggests changing to a shorter circular needle when needed.

What does the kit with needles include?

A 3.5 mm (US 4) and a 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle, both 80 cm — ADDI, the two sizes the pattern names.
