The wool sweater is made of Álafoss lopi and is designed by Gréta Björk Jóhannesdóttir and adapted by Védís Jónsdóttir.

Hand Washing: Icelandic wool sweaters should be hand-washed in lukewarm water using a mild detergent that's suitable for wool; Lopasápa
Avoid Agitation: Gently swish the sweater in the water without rubbing or twisting it, as wool is susceptible to damage when wet.
Rinsing: Thoroughly rinse the sweater in lukewarm water until all soap residue is removed.
Drying: Press out excess water without wringing, and lay the sweater flat on a towel to air dry. Avoid hanging or exposing it to direct heat or sunlight.

A rose with a long historyThe eight-petalled rose on the yoke is the Selbu rose, a motif Norwegian knitters have worked into mittens and sweaters since the 1850s. Here it is knitted in light blue, orange and dark red on a pale band.
Álafosslopi, the thick oneÍstex describes Álafosslopi as a thick wool yarn and, apart from unspun Plötulopi, the oldest wool yarn still made in Iceland. It recommends it for outdoor wear, and that is what Rósalind is knitted from.

What is the rose on the yoke?

An eight-petalled rose, also called the Selbu rose after Selbu in Norway, where a knitter named Marit Emstad made it famous in 1857 with a pair of mittens she wore to church. It spread across Norway after 1910 and has been knitted into Nordic sweaters, mittens and hats ever since. On Rósalind it runs all the way round the yoke.

Which size should I choose?

Lay a sweater that already fits you well flat and measure straight across the chest just under the arms, then match that number to the chest width column in the size table: 48.5 cm (19.1 in) for S, 54 cm (21.3 in) for M and 59 cm (23.2 in) for L. We cannot alter a sweater, so pick the nearest size.

How does it feel to wear?

Dense and firm, with the dry, springy hand of Icelandic wool; Álafosslopi is a spun yarn, so the knit is a little smoother than our unspun Plötulopi sweaters. Wear it over a shirt or a long-sleeved top, the way Icelanders wear theirs, and the tall collar keeps the neck covered.

How do I wash it?

By hand, in lukewarm water, with a mild wool soap such as Lopisápa. Swish it gently without rubbing or twisting, rinse in lukewarm water, press the water out without wringing, and lay it flat on a towel to dry away from direct heat and sun. Store it folded, somewhere cool and dry, not in a plastic bag.

Can I exchange it if the size is wrong?

Yes. An unused sweater in its original condition can be exchanged for another size under our return policy, linked at the foot of every page. Return postage is yours to pay unless the sweater is faulty or the mistake is ours.
