Neon is a free Icelandic sweater knitting pattern from Ístex, designed by Þórunn Vilmarsdóttir. It is space blue Álafoss Lopi: neon green dots start near the top of the body and sleeves, and the yoke turns neon green with blue dots.
About the Neon sweater pattern
- Sizes S (M, L): chest 100 (108, 117) cm all the way round; length to underarm 42 (44, 45) cm. The inch line prints 45.5 in for size M; 108 cm is about 42½ in (our calculation).
- Yarn: Álafoss Lopi, 100 g balls. A 1233 space blue 5 (5, 5); B 7624 neon green 2 (3, 3).
- Needles: 5 mm and 6½ mm circulars and double-pointed needles. Gauge 12 stitches to 10 cm.
Body and sleeves start with K1, P1 rib and are knitted in plain blue up to the dotted band (chart 1, 27 rounds) below the underarm; the sleeve increases carry on through the chart. The yoke (chart 2) has 40 rounds with the decreases worked in; size S leaves out rounds 20, 28 and 34, and size M leaves out round 20. The neckband is K1, P1 rib in neon green, 3–4 cm.
The yarn
We sell the main colour, 1233 space blue. Neon green (7624) is not in Ístex’s current Álafoss Lopi range and we do not stock it, so the contrast needs another Álafoss Lopi colour. Our suggestion, not the pattern’s: two greens from Ístex’s current range, 9983 apple green and 9965 chartreuse green heather (our shop’s names). The ball counts stay the same.
