Description

Afmæli — the Anniversary sweater — is a modern classic lopapeysa: a sheep-black Léttlopi body crowned with a joyful multicolour yoke in eight accent shades. Body and sleeves are worked in the round, then joined for the circular yoke. The pattern gives separate body and sleeve lengths for men and women.

Which size should I knit?

There are four adult sizes, S, M, L and XL, with a chest of 89, 98, 106.5 and 114.5 cm (35, 38½, 42 and 45″) all round. Choose the one closest to a sweater that fits you, then follow either the women’s or the men’s lengths.

What is the difference between the women’s and men’s versions?

The men’s version is longer in the body and sleeves — in size M, for example, 43 cm to the underarm against 39.5 cm for women — and the men’s sleeves have more stitches, so the yoke begins with more stitches. Two rounds at the start of the yoke chart are skipped in the women’s sizes.

Are the colours exactly as in the printed pattern?

All but two. The kit packs 1414 violet heather in place of the pattern’s 9417 dark wine, and 1407 pine green heather in place of 1405 bottle green. Every other colour is the one the pattern names.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit holds the XL amounts: 9 balls of black sheep and 3 of light beige. Sizes S and M use 7 black sheep and 2 light beige, size L uses 8 and 3. One ball of each yoke colour covers every size.

What does the kit with needles include?

ADDI 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm, 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm, and 4.5 mm and 3.5 mm double-pointed needles — the sizes the pattern names.

Can I knit it for a child?

The pattern also has two children’s sizes, 8–10 and 10–12 years (chest 80 and 89 cm), but they are charted in other colourways with a yoke of their own. The kit is packed with the black colourway for the adult sizes.
