Which size should I choose?

Lay a sweater that already fits you well flat and measure straight across the chest just under the arms, then match that number to the chest width column in the size table: XS is 47 cm (18.5 in) across, M is 53 cm (20.9 in). One buyer ordered an XS for a woman who wears a UK 8 and found it plenty big enough. We cannot alter a sweater, so pick the nearest size.

Extremely warm. Gerður is knitted from three strands of Plötulopi, which makes it the thickest knit we sell. Ístex, the mill that makes the wool, describes Icelandic wool as lightweight, water-repellent and highly breathable, with fine inner fibres that insulate and long outer fibres that resist the weather.

How does it feel to wear?

Lofty and warm. Icelandic wool has a dry, springy hand rather than the slippery softness of fine wools, and three strands of it make a fabric that stands away from the body a little. Wear it over a shirt or a thin long-sleeved top, the way Icelanders wear theirs, and it is comfortable all day.

What does the name mean?

Gerður is an Icelandic woman's name. In Norse mythology Gerðr is the giantess who became the wife of the god Freyr; the Eddic poem Skírnismál tells how Freyr's servant Skírnir won her consent. The name is all the sweater borrows; the yoke is a traditional lopapeysa pattern.

Can I exchange it if the size is wrong?

Yes. An unused sweater in its original condition can be exchanged for another size under our return policy, linked at the foot of every page. Return postage is yours to pay unless the sweater is faulty or the mistake is ours.
