Description

Elina is a classic, elegant yoke sweater knitted top-down in single-ply Plötulopi — the unspun Icelandic wool that gives the lightest, softest garments. Warm dark amber heather with the pattern detail in chocolate heather. Designed by Tove Richter, the Norwegian designer who knits almost exclusively with Icelandic wool.

Which size should I knit?

There are nine sizes, 2XS to 4XL, with a chest of 83, 87, 94, 100, 104, 108, 116, 124 and 132 cm all round (32¾–52″). The body is 40–46 cm long to the underarm and the sleeves 45–51 cm.

Is this the colourway in the pattern?

No. The pattern is shown in ivory beige with berry heather, a colour that has since been taken out of production. This kit knits the same design in 1426 dark amber heather with 1032 chocolate heather for the pattern, in the amounts the pattern gives.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit holds 4 plates of dark amber heather and 1 of chocolate heather — the amount for 2XL to 4XL. 2XS uses 2 plates of the main colour and XS to XL use 3, so smaller sizes have one or two plates over.

How is it knitted?

From the top down in the round. You cast on at the neck in the pattern colour on 3 mm needles, knit 3 rounds and 2 rounds of k1, p1 rib, then increase through the yoke chart by lifting and twisting the strand between stitches. Short rows lower the front neckline; the body has slight waist shaping.

What does the kit with needles include?

ADDI needles: 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm, 3 mm (US 2½) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm, and 4.5 mm double-pointed needles. Note that the pattern gives its gauge, 19 stitches to 10 cm, on 4 mm (US 6) needles — knit a swatch first. The four stitch markers and tapestry needle are not included.
