“Bought as a gift. It will be so lovely and warm, without the unnatural feel of manmade fibres. Wool is cosy and breathable.”
-
“Great blanket. Love the design and it’s very warm.”
- Icelandic wool
- Designed in Iceland by Védís Jónsdóttir
- Reversible: dark or light side out
Fuglar means “birds” in Icelandic. Across the middle of this blanket, rows of small cream V-shapes cross a dark grey ground like a flock seen from far off, between two broad borders of stepped pattern. Pattern no. 0502, designed in Iceland by Védís Jónsdóttir.
It is a jacquard, so the pattern is woven right through the cloth and the back is its negative: cream with dark grey birds. Put the dark side out for a strong, graphic look, or turn it over when you want the room lighter.
130 × 180 cm (about 51 × 71 in), with a dark stitched edge all round and no fringe. Icelandic wool is light and warm, and rarely needs more than an airing between uses.

Icelandic wool, designed in Iceland
The blanket Icelanders reach for
Light on the lap and properly warm, because Icelandic wool has two layers: long outer fibres that shrug off damp, soft inner fibres that hold the heat. Air it out rather than wash it, and it lasts for years.
Why you'll love it
- Drawn by Védís JónsdóttirÍstex credits Fuglar to Védís Jónsdóttir. Her other jacquards include Flétta, with its braid down the centre, and the red Frostrose snowflake.
- Tog and þelIcelandic wool has two kinds of fibre: long, glossy outer fibres (tog) that resist water and fine, soft inner fibres (þel) that insulate. Together they make a blanket that breathes and keeps out the cold.
- Lighter than it looksÍstex says its blankets are popular because of their warmth and lightness. It is easy to pick up, shake out and fold, and still keeps you warm on a cold evening.
