Good to know

Vindbelgur — your questions, answered

Why is one colour different from the pattern?
Sun yellow (1411) is no longer made. This kit has mimosa (1703) in its place — colour F, three of the 29 stripes in each pass through the colour order, and the yarn you graft the cowl closed with. Mimosa is a warm golden yellow, close to the yellow stripes in the pattern’s close-up photo. You can choose another shade in the colour picker.
How big is it?
One size: 114 cm round and 11 cm wide, folded double. In the photo it is worn wrapped twice round the neck. The denim jacket and black top in the photo are not part of the pattern.
Will I have yarn left over?
Yes — quite a lot. The kit has one ball of each of the ten colours, as the pattern lists: 7 balls of Léttlopi and 3 of Einband. Each colour makes only a few narrow stripes, so by our estimate you use roughly a third of each Léttlopi ball and a quarter of each Einband ball. Every colour is needed, so expect leftovers of all ten.
What does “2-ply” Einband mean?
Einband is a fine yarn, and the pattern says it “must be 2-ply” — by our reading, two strands held together as one. Wind each Einband ball into two, or knit from both ends of the ball (our suggestion).
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Two things, by our reading. The colour order starts with A, acorn, which is the cast-on: you cast on with acorn, cut it and start knitting with pink (B), so in the first pass through the order the first A is only the cast-on. And “fold the circle together with the RS out and graft” means folding the tube in half lengthwise, so the live stitches meet the cast-on edge — the 11 cm width, half the tube, confirms it. The pattern calls light ash heather (0054) “ash heather”.
What does the kit with needles include?
A 5 mm (US 8) circular needle in 80 cm — ADDI, as named in the pattern. A tapestry needle for grafting is not included.
