Good to know

Tat — your questions, answered

Why is one colour different from the pattern?
Sea green (1422) is no longer in the Plötulopi range. This kit has forest green (0484) in its place. It is colour B, and it is never knitted on its own: one strand of it is held with one strand of dark brown for the body, sleeves, yoke and upper rib, so it shows only as flecks in the brown marl. Forest green is a dark slate blue-green — close to the muted grey-teal flecks in the photo, but not the same yarn. You can choose another shade in the colour picker.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes, to fit 8, 10, 12 and 14 years — a chest of 80, 86, 91 and 97 cm, 34 to 41 cm from hem to underarm and sleeves of 36 to 44 cm.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for 12 and 14 years: 3 plates each of dark brown and forest green and 1 of dark amber — 7 plates. Sizes 8 and 10 use 2 each of dark brown and forest green and 1 of dark amber — 5 plates. Dark brown 1032 is called chocolate heather in our shop.
Why does the pattern say “Black sweater”?
It looks like a leftover heading above the yarn list (our reading). There is no black in this sweater: it is a dark brown and green marl with a dark amber band.
Are there mistakes in the pattern?
Two misprints. The 5½ mm needles are printed as US 7 — they are US 9 (the 4½ mm are US 7). In the yoke join the sleeve stitches are printed “K (35) 37 (39) 41” — read it as 35 (37) 39 (41). Also, in sizes 8 and 12 the last sleeve increase falls right where the band starts; work it before you begin the chart (our calculation).
Which needle do I use for the neckband?
The pattern just says a 4½ mm needle. With 56 to 62 stitches (our calculation) the 60 cm circular is too long, so use the 4.5 mm double-pointed needles.
What does the kit with needles include?
5.5 mm (US 9) circular needles in 40 and 60 cm; a 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle in 60 cm; 4.5 mm and 5.5 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The pattern gives the longer circulars as 60–80 cm; the kit has 60 cm, which suits a body of 80 to 97 cm.
