Strik is a lace scarf by Védís Jónsdóttir from Ístex’s Einband pattern series, knitted back and forth in one ball of red Einband: an open lace of V shapes in eyelets between garter-stitch edges, 20 × 120 cm after blocking — or longer, as the pattern says to add repeats if you like. One version, one size. Red (0047) is still made.

Needles
4 mm (US 6) circular needle, 60 cm — the scarf is knitted back and forth on it
You will also need
A tapestry needle for weaving in the ends, and pins for blocking — the pattern’s list leaves them out.
How it is knitted
Knitted back and forth on 39 stitches, cast on very loosely on a 4 mm circular needle. Five rows of garter stitch (3 ridges) start the scarf. Then the 8-row lace chart is repeated 40 times, or as long as you like: the chart shows the right-side rows, with 3 garter stitches at each edge and three 11-stitch repeats of yarn overs, K2tog and SSK between them; every wrong-side row is K3, P33, K3. Five more rows of garter stitch follow, then a stretchy bind-off, written out in the pattern and worked as loosely as the cast-on. Last, the scarf is rinsed by hand, the water squeezed out with a towel, and it is laid flat to dry with the edges pinned.
Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Ístex’s Einband pattern series, no. 8.
