Rökkur — twilight. A men’s zip cardigan from Ístex’s Lopi 24, based on an old Álafoss pattern in a new version by Védís Jónsdóttir. It is knitted flat in pieces, all in moss stitch, with no rib at the hem or cuffs, a high folded rib collar, pocket linings on the inside with the openings in the side seams, and an open-ended zip. One colour, in sizes 50, 52 and 54. The pattern’s one yarn, jungle green Álafosslopi (9980), is no longer made; in the photo it knits up in uneven olive and near-black bands.

How it is knitted
Every piece is knitted flat, back and forth, in moss stitch (called seed stitch in the US) on 6 mm needles: the back, two fronts, two sleeves and the pocket linings. There is no rib at the hem or cuffs. The back is cast on with 59 (63) 67 stitches and the sleeves with 35, increased at both ends of every 12th row; the armholes are shaped with cast-offs and decreases, and the sleeve cap is shaped differently on each side. The pieces are sewn together from the right side. The pocket linings, 19 stitches knitted for 18 cm, are sewn to the inside of the fronts, 2 cm above the cast-on edge, with the openings left in the side seams. The collar is 75 stitches picked up on 4.5 mm needles: 6 cm of K1, P1 rib, a purl row from the right side for the fold, and 6 cm more. The zip is sewn in by hand, twice — first from the right side, then loosely from the wrong side — and the collar is folded to the inside over the top of the zip and sewn down.
Based on old pattern from Álafoss. New variation: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 24 (no. 3), Ístex.
