This free rainbow scarf knitting pattern by Védís Jónsdóttir knits six colours of Léttlopi into a long garter-stitch scarf, about 15 × 150 cm plus a fringe. The stripes run the length of the scarf, from 1414 violet heather to 9434 crimson red.
About the rainbow scarf pattern
- Size: about 15 cm × 150 cm, plus fringe.
- Yarn: Léttlopi (50 g), one ball each of A 1414 violet heather, B 1402 heaven blue heather, C 1406 spring green heather, D 1703 mimosa, E 1704 apricot and F 9434 crimson red.
- Needles: 4½ mm circular needle, 100 cm or longer, and a 4½ mm crochet hook.
- Gauge: 16 stitches and 32 rows (16 garter ridges) to 10 cm.
The scarf is knitted back and forth in garter stitch, which means every row is knitted. You cast on the whole length, 240 stitches, with a crochet cast-on that looks like a bind-off. Each colour gets 8 rows (4 garter ridges), in the order A to F, 24 ridges in all. For the fringe you cut six 20 cm strands of each colour; three strands folded in half and pulled through with the crochet hook make a tassel, two tassels in each colour.
