Pí — Around we go. A one-size statement sweater in chunky Álafosslopi: the body is made of two great circles knitted from the centre outwards, so rings of midnight blue, purple, bordeaux, fuchsia, teal, chartreuse and amber radiate out like a colour wheel. Roomy and cocoon-like — one size fits most.

What size is the sweater?

It is knitted in one size, with a chest of 120 cm (47¼″) and sleeves 44 cm (17¼″) long to the underarm.

How do I start a circle?

With a circle cast-on: you lay the yarn in a ring, pick up 7 stitches through it onto double-pointed needles, and pull the tail to close the centre. The pattern describes it step by step. You move to circular needles as the circle grows.

How is the sweater put together?

The sleeves are knitted in the round from a ribbed cuff, then back and forth to shape the top, with a 16 cm side panel from the underarm stitches. You sew the sleeves and panels to the circles from the right side, leave about 36 cm for the neck and sew the shoulders about 5 cm.

How much yarn is in the kit?

Exactly what the pattern calls for: 5 balls of midnight blue for the outer rings and sleeves, and 1 ball each of dark soft purple, bordeaux, fuchsia, teal, chartreuse and amber.

What does the kit with needles include?

6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40, 60 and 80 cm, and 4.5 mm (US 7) and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI. The pattern also lists a 120 cm circular needle in 6 mm for the outer rounds of the circles; it is not in the kit.
