Good to know

Manhattan Hat — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
S/M or M/L: 90 or 96 stitches cast on, about 50 or 53 cm round at the pattern’s gauge (our calculation — the pattern gives only the length, 19 or 20 cm to the top shaping).
How much yarn does it take?
The pattern gives no amounts. The kit holds one ball of each of the five colours — about 500 m in all, as Ístex gives Léttlopi as about 100 m per 50 g ball. Ravelry’s listing for this pattern (not the Ístex leaflet) gives 498 m and notes that you won’t use up all the yarn making one hat, so expect leftovers.
How are the ears made?
At the top, the middle stitches of the front and back are grafted together, and the stitches at each side are knitted into a small point. The pattern also gives a classic round top if you prefer.
The pattern mentions a pink top option — is it included?
No. The kit has the colours in the photo; the pink option (1705 royal fuchsia and/or 1412 pink heather) is an alternative the pattern names in one line, without saying which colours it replaces.
What does the kit with needles include?
3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 cm; 4.5 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern.
