Good to know

Lopi 18 No. 29 — your questions, answered

Why is one colour different from the pattern?
Green heather (9737) is no longer made by Ístex. This kit has garden green (1231) in its place — the main colour (M), used for the body, sleeves, ribs, yoke background and neckband. It is a close match: a touch darker and more saturated, with less of the heathered look of the green in the photo. You can choose another shade in the colour picker.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes by the child’s height — 122, 134, 140 and 152 cm — with a chest of 83 to 97 cm, 46 to 58 cm long to the front neck and sleeves of 29 to 38 cm. The pattern gives heights, not ages, so measure the child.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for the 140 and 152 cm sizes: 5 balls of garden green and one each of black and white — 7 balls. The 122 and 134 cm sizes use 4 balls of green.
What do the + squares in the charts mean?
In the 122 and 134 cm sizes they are knitted in green; in the 140 and 152 cm sizes in black, so the larger sizes have a little more black. One ball of black is enough for every size.
Are there mistakes in the pattern?
A few small ones. Size 152: the yoke says to knit 54 stitches across the front and across the back; it should be 55 each — the body has 126 stitches, and 55 gives the yoke total of 198 that the pattern prints (our calculation). Size 140: the sleeve puts 9 stitches on the underarm holder and the body puts 8, so you graft 9 stitches to 8; ease them together. On the sleeves, “in 1 st at beg and end of 2nd rnd” means increase 1 stitch at each end; work that first increase, then 4 (5) 6 (4) more every 6th round, to reach the printed 46 (48) 50 (52) stitches.
Is there a grown-up version?
Lopi 18 no. 28, by the same designer, is an adult sweater with a similar yoke of rings and zigzags — sold as a separate kit (Lopi 18 No. 28).
What does the kit with needles include?
4.5 mm (US 7) and 6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 60 cm; 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The sleeves and the top of the yoke are knitted on the 6 mm double-pointed needles.
