Good to know

Lopi 18 No. 28 — your questions, answered

Why is one colour different from the pattern?
Black sheep tweed (9452) is no longer made by Ístex. This kit has black tweed (9975) in its place — the main colour (M), used for the body, sleeves, ribs, yoke background and neckband. It keeps the white tweed flecks, but it is blacker than the dark brown-black in the photo, so the white and oatmeal will stand out a little more. You can choose another shade in the colour picker.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, XS to XL, with a chest of 102 to 120 cm and a length of 62 to 72 cm to the front neck. Sleeves are 41 to 45 cm for women and 46 to 50 cm for men.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for size XL: 9 balls of black tweed, 2 of white and 2 of oatmeal heather — 13 balls. XS uses 9 balls in all, S 10, M 11 and L 12. The pattern gives one amount for both sleeve lengths.
Anything to watch for?
On the sleeves, work the first increase on round 2, then 4 (5) 6 (5) 6 more, to reach the printed 52 (54) 56 (60) 62 stitches. Several yoke rounds are skipped in the smaller sizes; they are marked beside Chart 2.
Is there a children’s version?
Lopi 18 no. 29, by the same designer, is a children’s sweater with a similar yoke of rings and zigzags, in green with black and white — sold as a separate kit (Lopi 18 No. 29).
What does the kit with needles include?
A 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle in 80 cm; 6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm; 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The pattern lists only 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, but each sleeve changes to 6 mm after the cuff with only 42 to 48 stitches — too few to go round a 40 cm circular — so the kit adds 6 mm double-pointed needles.
