Lopi 18 No. 22 — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
Three sizes — XS, M and XL; the pattern has no S or L. The chest is 97, 111 and 125 cm and the length 62 to 72 cm to the front neck. Sleeves are 41 to 45 cm for women and 46 to 50 cm for men. If you fall between two sizes, choose by how loose you like it.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for size XL: 8 balls of dark grey heather and 2 of white — 10 balls. XS uses 6 balls of dark grey and M uses 7. The pattern gives one amount for both sleeve lengths.
Which photos show this version?
The man on the beach and the person lying in the grass — both wear Design 22, dark grey with white. The blue sweater is Design 23 from the same leaflet, sold as a separate kit (Lopi 18 No. 23).
Anything to watch for?
The charts are drawn once for both versions — follow the key for your design. In size XS the sleeve puts 7 stitches on the underarm holder but the body puts 9, so you graft 7 stitches to 9; ease them together, as every other XS count is right. The sleeve border is not a whole number of repeats, so start where Chart 1 marks “begin sleeve”; the motif breaks under the arm.
What does the kit with needles include?
A 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle in 80 cm; 6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm; 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The pattern lists only 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, but each sleeve changes to 6 mm after the cuff with only 40 to 48 stitches — too few to go round a 40 cm circular — so the kit adds 6 mm double-pointed needles.
