Good to know

Lopi 12 No. 18 — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, XS to XL, with a chest of 98 to 123 cm and a length of 62 to 72 cm to the front neck. Sleeves are 41 to 45 cm for women and 46 to 50 cm for men.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for size XL: 8 balls of grey, 2 of black heather and 2 of white. XS uses 6 of grey, 2 of black heather and 1 of white. The pattern gives one amount for both sleeve lengths.
Are the black stitches really purled?
Yes — the chart key marks almost every black heather stitch “05 P”, purled; only a few are knitted. The dark motifs stand out as small bumps on the grey and white.
The pattern says Chart 1 “does not work out” in sizes S and M — what does that mean?
The 44 sleeve stitches in those sizes do not divide by the 8-stitch border, so the border breaks where the round starts, on the inside of the sleeve. Knit on as written; nothing else changes.
Is the woman’s sweater in the photo included?
No — her black sweater is Lopi 12 no. 14, sold here as the Hrafnhildur kit. Her hat is not part of this pattern.
What does the kit with needles include?
A 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle in 80 cm; 6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm; 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The pattern lists only 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, but each sleeve changes to 6 mm after the cuff and has only 40 to 48 stitches after the first round — too few to go round a 40 cm circular — so the kit adds 6 mm double-pointed needles.
