How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the brim up: five rounds of black that roll, one round of bottle green and 2×2 rib on 3.5 mm needles, then the chart on 4.5 mm. The six pattern colours are carried loosely on the outside of the hat when not in use, with the main colour at normal tension on the inside; from round 16 the background is black, up through the crown. The crown is decreased from the chart and the last stitches are drawn together. Finally the strands on the outside are cut in half and tied together, colour by colour, into small tufts.
Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 40 (no. 11), Ístex.
