KETKRÓKUR - CHOCOLATE WITH SMOKED SEA SALT

Creamy 40% milk chocolate with flakes of smoked sea salt that turn each square savoury and a little bonfire-ish before the sweetness comes back. Salt and smoke make it Icelandic; the milk chocolate keeps it friendly.

Ketkrókur ("Meat-Hook") is the twelfth Yule Lad, arriving on the night of 23 December. The hungriest and most daring of the brothers, he uses a long hooked pole to fish meat out through chimneys and rafters — above all hangikjöt, the smoked lamb Icelanders eat at Christmas.
