Vikings laughing with good friends or just a crowd of energetic bearded men. This classical “Lopapeysa” is knitted from 2-ply Plötulopi. I like designing different patterns for body and sleeves that do not mirror the yoke pattern and here the ribs are also in different colors.

This knitting kit includes all material needed to make your own traditional Icelandic sweater: Kátir Karlar (Merry Men), sweater made of Plötulopi, designed by Védís Jónsdóttir.

Yarn keeps breaking

Ive just started the pattern. I am not a tight knitter but the yarn keeps breaking. Im afraid it is not usable at all. Very discouraging and a waste of money

The product arrived as promised very quickly and the whole process was ver efficient. The shipping packaging is beautiful and the presentation and chocolate were amazing. To be honest J did not realize the wool would be in rounds rather than balls and that it would be as thin and delicate. I have had to restart the project several times to get the guard and fear that I will need additional wool. It was only after I had researched the wool online and adjusted the sizing that I could make progress with the project. I am used to using the thicker lopi wools so I was a little disappointed. However I think in the end the sweater will be lovely and warm and much lighter. It is a learning experience which is always a good thing!

Shipped very quickly - much quicker than I expected. My first time knitting with plotulopi wool and only my second time with circular needles. Knits up beautifully and really good value. I think that some more information on the website explaining how to knit up the jumpers and what the wool is like would encourage the not so confident knitters to buy the kits. Very happy with my purchase and excited to be knitting with genuine Icelandic wool!!

I am extremely please with both the knitting kit and the service I received from the Icelandic Store.

The knitting kit was exactly what I was looking for and the fact that I was able to change the colours for ones of my choice was absolutely ideal.

The service was outstanding. I purchased the kit on 10th December and expected delivery to be 15 days but it actually arrived with me on the West Coast of Scotland on 17th December. That is quicker than some parcels I have received from mainland UK.

I've never knitted a lopapeysa — can I manage a kit?

Many of our customers knit their first lopapeysa from one of these kits. Choose a one-colour or simple-yoke design to start, and warm up with our free patterns. Stuck mid-project? Write to us — we knit these ourselves.

What exactly is in the box?

The knitting pattern and the genuine Ístex lopi yarn for the design. On most kits you can add needles as an option at no fuss.

Which yarn do the kits use?

Most use Léttlopi — the classic lopapeysa yarn — while some designs call for Álafoss Lopi, Plötulopi or Einband. Each kit page says which.

Do US orders pay customs on delivery?

No — duties and taxes are settled at checkout, so nothing is due when the parcel arrives. No customs bills, no courier fees.
