Good to know

Ísar — your questions, answered

Why is one colour different from the pattern?
Jeans blue (9979) is no longer made. This kit has denim heather (0010) in its place — colour A, the main colour: the rib, body and sleeves, the blue in both charts and the collar. In the photo the jeans blue is a streaky, multi-tone yarn with lighter and darker blue in it. Denim heather is not streaky, so your sweater will be one even denim blue — about the same greyish blue and depth as the photo, a little brighter, without the streaks. You can choose another shade in the colour picker.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — 110, 122, 134 and 140, European children’s sizes named after the child’s height in cm (about 4 to 10 years, our reading). The chest is 69, 74, 79 and 83 cm, and the length to the centre front neck 39 to 51 cm. The pattern’s size table labels the chest row “To fit height”; that is a misprint — the numbers match the stitch count at the hem, so they are the chest.
How long are the sleeves?
The pattern disagrees with itself. The size table gives 28 (31) 35 (38) cm to the underarm, but the sleeve instructions say to knit to 31 (35) 38 (41) cm from the cast-on edge — 3 to 4 cm longer. It doesn’t say which is right, so measure the child’s arm and knit to the length you need (our suggestion).
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for size 140: 7 balls of denim heather and 2 of light ash heather — 9 balls. Sizes 110 and 122 use 6 balls, size 134 uses 8. The pattern calls light ash heather (0054) simply “ash heather”.
What colour is the collar?
The pattern doesn’t say. In the photo both children’s collars are in the main colour, so knit it in denim heather (our reading).
Is anything unclear in the yoke chart?
The light grey squares in chart 2 are not in the key: they mean “no stitch” — stitches already removed by the decreases. And in sizes 110 and 122 some rounds are skipped (size 134 skips one), as marked beside the chart, so the yoke is a little shorter.
Which child in the photo wears this version?
The boy in front, in the blue sweater. The girl behind him wears the dark grey version, also sold as a kit.
What does the kit with needles include?
A 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle in 60 cm; 6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40 and 60 cm; 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. Stitch holders are not included.
