Ísar is a children’s round-yoke sweater from Ístex’s Lopi 24 — Védís Jónsdóttir’s new version of an old pattern by Astrid Ellingsen, knitted in Álafosslopi in the round from the bottom up. A band of light zigzags sits above the ribbed hem and above the cuffs, the round yoke has motifs in the main colour on a light ash heather ground, and the polo collar is K1, P1 rib. The pattern has two versions with the same amounts — blue and dark grey — in sizes 110 to 140. Both main colours, jeans blue (9979) and moon grey (9977), are no longer made; ash heather (0054) still is.

Gauge
13 sts × 18 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 6 mm needles.
Needles
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle, 60 cm, for the hem rib
6 mm (US 10) circular needles, 40 and 60 cm — the pattern names the 60 cm for the body; it doesn’t say where the 40 cm is used (by our reading, the top of the yoke as it narrows)
4.5 mm (US 7) double-pointed needles for the cuffs and the collar
6 mm (US 10) double-pointed needles for the sleeves
You will also need
Stitch holders (or waste yarn) for the underarm stitches, and a tapestry needle for grafting the underarms and weaving in the ends.
How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up. The body is cast on with 90 (96, 102, 108) stitches in A on the 4.5 mm circular and worked in K1, P1 rib for 5 (5, 6, 6) cm; on the 6 mm circular comes an 8-round zigzag band from chart 1, then plain stocking stitch in A to 24 (27, 30, 33) cm. The sleeves are cast on with 26 (26, 28, 28) stitches on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles for the same rib, increased to 30 (30, 36, 36) on 6 mm, given the same band, then knitted in A and increased at the underarm every 6th round to 38 (38, 42, 42). Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — 138 (144, 150, 156) stitches — and a 31-round chart with four decrease rounds takes it down to 46 (48, 50, 52); sizes 110 and 122 skip four marked rounds and size 134 one. The collar is K1, P1 rib on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, 6 (6, 7, 7) cm high, cast off loosely — it is not folded. The underarm stitches are grafted.
Based on old pattern by Astrid Ellingsen. New version: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 24 (no. 12), Ístex.
