Hrím — hoarfrost. Védís Jónsdóttir’s yoke sweater from Ístex’s Lopi 29, in the green-grey colourway: rough sea Léttlopi with four patterned bands around the body and sleeves and a patterned yoke in grey heather, ash heather, light ash heather, black and black heather, finished with a rolled black heather edge at the neck. Each size has a man’s and a woman’s sleeve length.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up. The body starts with 4 cm of 1×1 rib, then four stranded colour bands from the chart, with plain rounds of the main colour between them. The sleeves carry the same four bands, centred on the sleeve, with the increases worked through the pattern. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke, knitted from a 48-round chart with seven decrease rounds. The neck is 4 cm of 1×1 rib, then 6 rounds of stocking stitch in a contrast colour that roll over. The underarm stitches are grafted. In the green-grey version the neck edge is black heather.

Which size should I knit?

Three sizes — XS/S, M/L and XL/XXL — with a chest of 89, 100 and 111 cm and 42 to 46 cm from hem to underarm.

Is it for men or women?

Both. Each size has a man’s sleeve (49, 51 or 53 cm) and a woman’s sleeve (46, 48 or 50 cm); only the number of plain rounds between and above the sleeve bands differs, and the yarn is the same.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit holds the amount for M/L and XL/XXL, which the pattern gives the same: 6 balls of rough sea, 3 each of grey heather and black, and 2 each of ash heather, light ash heather and black heather — 18 in all. XS/S uses 13.

The pattern says “light grey” and “ash” — which balls are those?

Go by the colour numbers. The pattern’s light grey is 0056, called Ash Heather in our shop; its ash is 0054, called Light Ash Heather.

What does the kit with needles include?

3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm; 3.5 mm and 4.5 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern.
