Good to know

Hrím — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes — all twelve are still made by Ístex. Beige: barley (1419), murky (1420), chocolate (0867), black sheep (0052), white (0051) and straw (1418). Green-grey: rough sea (1415), grey (0057), light grey (0056), ash (0054), black (0059) and heather black (0005).
The pattern says “light grey” and “ash” — which yarn is that?
Go by the colour numbers, because the names are easy to mix up. The pattern’s light grey is 0056, called Ash Heather in our shop, and its ash is 0054, called Light Ash Heather. Its grey (0057) is Grey Heather in our shop, heather black (0005) is Black Heather, chocolate (0867) is Chocolate Heather and black sheep (0052) is Black Sheep Heather.
Which size should I knit?
Three sizes — XS/S, M/L and XL/XXL — with a chest of 89, 100 and 111 cm and 42, 44 and 46 cm from hem to underarm. Sleeves are 49, 51 and 53 cm for a man and 46, 48 and 50 cm for a woman.
Is it for men or women?
Both. The man’s and the woman’s sleeve differ only in the number of plain rounds between and above the four sleeve bands; the body and the yoke are the same, and the pattern gives one set of yarn amounts for both.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls. The pattern gives one set of amounts for both colourways and both sleeve lengths: A 5 (6, 6), B 2 (3, 3), C 2 (2, 2), D 1 (2, 2), E 2 (3, 3) and F 1 (2, 2) — 13 balls in XS/S and 18 in M/L and XL/XXL.
How do I read the charts for the green-grey colourway?
The charts are drawn in the beige colourway’s colours, and the key gives two codes for each letter, beige first and green-grey second. Go by the letters, not the shades: A is rough sea, B grey, C light grey, D ash, E black and F heather black. Light and dark change places — the two darkest browns (C and D) become light grey and ash, and the white squares (E) become black. The dark red squares in the yoke chart are not a yarn colour: they mean “no stitch” and fill the places of the stitches taken away by the decreases.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Two small things. On the sleeves you increase 15 (14, 16) times, then 1 stitch more in sizes M/L and XL/XXL to reach 74 and 78 stitches; the pattern does not say where to put that last one. The stitch holders for the underarms are used but not in the materials list.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the beige colourway, a page with the materials, the sizes, the chart for the body and sleeve bands, the colour key and the start of the instructions, a page with the rest of the instructions and the yoke chart, and Ístex’s back cover.
