Overview
What's in the kit
Hetta — hood. Guðrún Ragna Sigurjónsdóttir’s hood from Ístex’s Lopi 32 is knitted from just two balls of Léttlopi, with moss-stitch edges and a moss-stitch stripe over the crown. It buttons under the chin with four buttons — wear it up, or down as a snug collar. The pattern shows it in spring green heather, as in this kit, and in light beige heather on a child.
Included
- Icelandic Léttlopi wool yarn — 2 balls, all the pattern calls for
- Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase
- ADDI knitting needles — only if you choose the kit with needles

A 1406 Spring Green Heather — 2
Size
One size for women and children. The hood is about 27 cm from the lower edge to the start of the crown shaping, and the crocheted button band under the chin is about 17.5 cm long.
Gauge
16 sts × 23 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 5.5 mm needles.
Needles used in the pattern (included when you choose the kit with needles)
5.5 mm (US 9) circular needle, 60 cm (knitted back and forth)
Not included
4 buttons, and a 4.5 mm crochet hook for the button bands.
How it is knitted
Knitted back and forth in one piece from the lower edge: 94 stitches cast on and 7 rows of moss stitch, then stocking stitch with moss-stitch borders of 6 stitches at each edge and a 16-stitch moss-stitch panel up the middle. A few decreases shape the neck; at 27 cm the stitches either side of the centre panel are decreased, and the panel is then worked like a heel flap, taking in one stitch from each side every row, until only its 16 stitches remain to bind off. Single-crochet bands are worked on the two front edges below the face — one with four buttonholes — and the hood buttons under the chin.
