Caramels and chocolate are what Freyja made in its first years, from 1918. Today Freyja, Iceland's oldest working sweet maker, is in Kópavogur.

Why does the bag just say Bombur?

That is how Freyja names it. Its specification calls this bag "Bombur 150 g", a chocolate-coated caramel with vanilla flavour; the other Bombur bags carry their flavour on the front.

Is it real vanilla?

Freyja lists "flavouring" rather than vanilla, so think of it as a vanilla-flavoured caramel, not one made with vanilla seeds.

Can someone avoiding gluten eat it?

There is no wheat in Freyja's ingredient list, but Freyja does not label it gluten-free. It contains milk and sulphite and may contain traces of nuts. If an allergy is serious, check the bag.

Will the chocolate melt on the way?
