Lakkrís Bombur are Freyja's chocolate-coated liquorice caramels: a caramel made with liquorice, with small liquorice pieces through it, coated in milk chocolate (min. 35% cocoa solids). There is a little salmiak in the recipe. It is the liquorice bag for people who like caramel.

Made by Freyja in Kópavogur, Iceland's oldest working sweet maker, founded in 1918. Bombur ("bombs") is one of the names in Freyja's chocolate range.

What is inside a Lakkrís Bombur?

A caramel made with liquorice, with small pieces of liquorice through it, coated in milk chocolate. That is Freyja's own description. There is no marshmallow or gelatin in the recipe.

Is it salty liquorice?

There is ammonium chloride (salmiak) in the recipe, the ingredient behind the salty edge of Nordic liquorice, and it sits inside caramel and milk chocolate. Freyja sells its stronger liquorice lines under the word sterkur (strong), such as Sterkar Djúpur; this bag is not one of them.

Does it contain gluten?

Yes. Wheat flour is in the recipe. It also contains milk and traces of sulphite, and Freyja says it may contain traces of nuts.

Will the chocolate melt on the way?

It can soften in warm months. We do not refund melted chocolate unless you add Shipping protection in the cart (terms of service, sections 9 and 10). Freyja advises storing it dry and cool, 15–20 °C.

Will I pay duties or customs on delivery?

Not in the US or Canada — duties and taxes are settled at checkout, so nothing is owed at the door. For other destinations, any local import charges are collected by the courier on delivery.
