Bláklukka — the harebell. Védís Jónsdóttir’s yoke sweater for little ones from Ístex’s Lopi 29, in the white version: white Léttlopi with garter-stitch edges, panels of eyelets up the front, back and sleeves, and a round yoke of white bell flowers with crimson accents on black, closed at the neck with one small button.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up; the body narrows towards the chest. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke, knitted from a 33-round chart with four decrease rounds. The neckband is worked back and forth, leaving a small opening that closes with a button and loop. The underarm stitches are grafted. In the white version the hem and cuffs start with a few rows of garter stitch knitted flat, a lace panel of eyelets runs up the front, the back and each sleeve, the body is shaped with side decreases, the yoke starts with two garter ridges and the neckband is garter stitch.

Which size should I knit?

Four sizes — 1–2, 2–3, 4–5 and 5–6 years — with a chest of 56, 63, 70 and 76 cm and 25 to 33 cm from hem to underarm.

How does it go over the head?

The neckband is knitted back and forth, which leaves a small opening at the neck. It closes with one small button and a button loop.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit holds the amount for 5–6 years: 5 balls of white and one each of spring green, black and crimson. 1–2 years uses 3 balls of white, 2–3 and 4–5 years use 4.

How do I read the yoke chart for the white version?

The chart is drawn in the green version’s colours. For the white version, knit its white squares in black, its blue squares in white and its violet squares in crimson; green stays green.

Which colour for the ridges at the start of the yoke?

The pattern text says to join the yoke with A (spring green), but in the photo the three ridge rounds at the base of the yoke are white. To match the photo, knit them in white.

What does the kit with needles include?

4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 60 cm; a 4 mm (US 6) circular needle in 60 cm; a 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle in 40 cm; 3.5 mm and 4.5 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The button is not included.
