ASKASLEIKIR - DARK CHOCOLATE 70% WITH LIQUORICE SALT

A 70% dark chocolate — deep cocoa, gentle bitterness — with Icelandic liquorice salt scattered through it, so each square finishes salty with a liquorice edge. Probably the most Icelandic thing you can do to a dark bar, and it works.

Askasleikir ("Bowl-Licker") is the sixth Yule Lad, arriving on the night of 17 December. He hides under beds and benches, waiting for someone to set down their askur — the lidded wooden bowl Icelanders once ate from — then creeps out and licks it clean of porridge, stew or milk. The quiet, patient one. Made in Iceland by Kandís with South American cacao; the salt comes from the Westfjords.
