Good to know

Tjald — your questions, answered

What does the kit make?
The knitted cover, 99 cm high, in two halves sewn together. The frame is not included: the pattern uses four wooden poles tied together at the top with a rope, set on a base or fastened together.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds exactly what the pattern lists: 13 balls of apricot, 6 of black, 3 of crimson, 2 of mimosa and 1 each of glacier blue and spring green.
What is a steek?
A column of purl stitches knitted in the round and later cut. The pattern secures it twice with a sewing machine before cutting, then crochets a band along each edge.
What else do I need?
A 3.5 mm crochet hook for the bands and button loops, four large buttons, a ribbon or elastic band to strengthen the top, and the poles and rope for the frame.
What does the kit with needles include?
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm, a 4 mm (US 6) circular needle in 100 cm, a 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle in 40 cm and 4.5 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI. The pattern suggests a 4.5 mm needle of 100 cm or more for the widest rounds; we stock 4.5 mm up to 80 cm.
