Overview
What's in the kit
Þula — the old Icelandic chanted rhyme that strings word after word together. Védís Jónsdóttir’s scarf from Ístex’s Lopi 34 strings colour after colour: eight shades of fine Einband — crimson, midnight blue, lime, purple, pink, citron, turquoise and vivid blue — in a long run of stripes and small patterns, knitted as a tube with a short fringe at each end.
Included
- Icelandic Einband wool yarn — one 50 g ball of each of the eight colours, all the pattern calls for
- Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase

Not included
A 4–5 mm crochet hook for the fringe, and a little scrap yarn for the cast-on.
How it is knitted
Knitted in the round as a tube, so the scarf is double and has no wrong side: 70 stitches are cast on with scrap yarn, two rounds are knitted in crimson, and the striped chart of 210 rounds is worked twice — 420 rounds in all — before two rounds in midnight blue. Both ends are laid flat and grafted closed, one in midnight blue and, once the scrap yarn is unravelled, the other in crimson. Fringes of four 12 cm strands are knotted into every other stitch — crimson at the midnight-blue end and midnight blue at the crimson end — and trimmed to 4 cm.
Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 34 (no. 7), Ístex.
