Good to know

The Wilderness sweater Space Blue — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, S to XXL, measure 93, 101, 110, 120 and 129 cm around the body (36½–50¾″). Each size has a women’s length — body 41–45 cm, sleeves 47–51 cm — and a men’s length — body 43–47 cm, sleeves 50–54 cm.
Short neck or turtleneck?
The pattern gives both: a short neck of 3 cm 1×1 rib in a contrast colour, or a turtleneck of 2×2 rib in the main colour, knitted until it measures 20 cm. Its yarn amounts are for the short neck and it does not say how much extra the turtleneck needs.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds 8 balls of 1233 space blue, 2 of 0051 white and one each of 9976 beige tweed and 9971 amber heather. With the short neck, S and M use 5 balls of the main colour, L uses 6 and XL and XXL use 7, so every size has at least one ball of space blue over — useful for a turtleneck.
How do I keep the floats short in the paw prints?
The pattern points out that strands can get long on the inside where the paw prints are, and asks you to twist the yarns together on the inside to prevent long strands.
What does the kit with needles include?
ADDI needles in the sizes the pattern names: 6 mm (US 10) and 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles, each in 40 and 80 cm, and 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles.
How do I finish the sweater?
Weave in the ends and sew or knit the underarm holes together. The pattern then asks for a cold bath and drying flat on a towel — drying flat keeps the sweater from stretching.
