Good to know

The Wilderness sweater Acorn Heather — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
There are five sizes — S, M, L, XL and XXL — measuring 93, 101, 110, 120 and 129 cm around the body (36½–50¾″). For each size the pattern gives a women’s length (body 41–45 cm, sleeves 47–51 cm) and a men’s length (body 43–47 cm, sleeves 50–54 cm).
Short neck or turtleneck?
Both are in the pattern. The short neck is 3 cm of 1×1 rib in chocolate brown; the turtleneck is 2×2 rib in the main colour, knitted until it measures 20 cm. The pattern’s yarn amounts are for the short neck and it does not say how much extra the turtleneck takes.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the short-neck amounts for XXL: 7 balls of 0053 acorn heather, 2 of 9976 beige tweed and one each of 9971 amber heather and 0867 chocolate heather. S and M use 5 balls of acorn heather, L uses 6, and XL and XXL use all 7 — so the smaller sizes have one or two balls over, which you can put toward a turtleneck.
How do I avoid long floats in the paw prints?
The pattern warns that the strands can get long on the inside where the paw prints are, and asks you to twist the yarns together on the inside to keep them short.
What does the kit with needles include?
ADDI needles in the sizes the pattern names: 6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm, 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm, and 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles.
How do I finish the sweater?
Weave in the ends and sew or knit the underarm stitches together. The pattern then asks for a cold bath and drying flat on a towel, so the sweater does not stretch.
