Good to know

Styrkur — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. Both are still made by Ístex: Plötulopi gold yellow (1424) and arctic blue (1431). Our shop calls them golden yellow heather and arctic blue heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Three sizes, S/M, M/L and L/XL, with a chest of 113, 120 and 127 cm all the way round; it matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge to within half a centimetre (our check). The body is narrower at the hem — 93, 100 and 107 cm round. It is long, 50 to 54 cm from the hem to the underarm, and the sleeves are 40 to 42 cm. Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Plötulopi in plates of about 100 g: 5 (5, 6) plates of one colour — gold yellow for the yellow version, arctic blue for the blue. The pattern says to wind two strands softly together from the plates and knit them as one.
How is the lace knitted?
With yarn overs and decreases, in one colour. In the yoke chart each 8-stitch repeat has one column of holes: a yarn over on every other round, next to a knit-two-together or a slip-slip-knit. On five of those rounds an extra decrease shapes the yoke, from 184 (192, 200) stitches to 69 (72, 75). The hem, cuffs and neckband are lace ribs written out round by round.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few things. The pattern gives no length for the hem and cuff rib or for the neckband — it only says to repeat the rounds. The neckband has four rounds written out but says “Rep rnds 1-3”; by our reading all four are repeated. The materials list leaves out stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The sweaters are. The cream trousers are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the blue sweater; a page with small photos of both versions, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes, all the instructions, the yoke chart and its key; a blank page; and Ístex’s back cover.
