Opal Red - Menthol Liquorice

Red Opal: round liquorice pastilles with a menthol edge, sugar free. The menthol hits first — cool and clearing — then the liquorice extract settles in and stays. It's a pastille to let dissolve slowly, and the taste is cleaner and less sweet than a sugared liquorice sweet.

Icelanders know it as mentollakkrís sykurlaus — sugar-free menthol liquorice — and Opal has been in Icelandic pockets for as long as anyone remembers. Made by Nói Síríus in Reykjavík; "Risa" (giant) means bigger pastilles in a zip bag.
