Description

Margret is a women’s Léttlopi sweater with a shorter, neater neckline and a lively colour combination. This Lapis Blue version — white with the yoke in lapis blue, black heather and ash — was knitted by the Finnish knitter @triqtti. The ribs are worked with the yarn held double on 6 mm needles, which is why the kit’s needle set has both sizes. Tove Richter is a Norwegian designer who knits almost exclusively with Icelandic wool.

Which size should I knit?

Seven sizes, XS to 3XL, with a chest of 89, 93, 98, 104, 109, 118 and 124 cm (35 to 48¾″) all round. Choose the one nearest a sweater that fits you. The body is 41 to 47 cm to the underarm, and the pattern lets you knit it longer or shorter.

The pattern shows grey and purple — which kit colour is which?

The pattern is written for light ash, dark grey, ash and grape. In this kit white takes the place of light ash (A), black heather of dark grey (B), ash stays ash (C) and lapis blue takes the place of grape (D), so you can follow the chart letters as they are.

Why are the ribs knitted with double yarn?

The pattern knits every rib with two strands of Léttlopi together on 6 mm needles: the hem (9 to 12 cm), the cuffs (14 cm) and the neck (8 cm). Everything else is single yarn on 4.5 mm needles, which is why the needle set has both sizes.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit holds the 3XL amounts: 9 white, 6 lapis blue, 2 black heather and 2 ash. Size XS, for example, uses 5 white, 4 lapis blue and 1 ash; black heather is 2 balls in every size.

What does the kit with needles include?

An ADDI 6 mm (US 10) circular needle in 80 cm, 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40, 60 and 80 cm, and 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — the sizes the pattern names.

Is there anything else I need?

Four stitch markers — the pattern suggests one in a different colour for the start of the round — and a tapestry needle. They are not in the kit.
