Overview
What's in the kit
Leysingar — the spring thaw: glacier rivers, mudflats and moss melting together, as the pattern puts it. Védís Jónsdóttir’s jacket from Ístex’s Lopi 38 takes the big-scale, three-colour layout of the original camouflage pattern and knits it in thick Álafosslopi — black sheep, highland green and sheep sorrel — with Léttlopi hems and a collar lined in rust.
Included
- Icelandic Álafosslopi and Léttlopi wool yarn — yarn for the largest size is included, so every size is covered
- Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase
- ADDI knitting needles — only if you choose the kit with needles

Gauge
Álafosslopi: 13 sts × 18 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 6 mm needles. Léttlopi: 18 sts × 24 rows = 10 cm on 4.5 mm needles.
Needles used in the pattern (included when you choose the kit with needles)
6 mm (US 10) circular needle, 80 cm
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle, 80 cm — the pattern also names a 4.5 mm needle of 100 cm or longer for the collar; we do not stock that length, so it is not included
How it is knitted
The back, two fronts and two sleeves are knitted flat in Álafosslopi on 6 mm needles, using intarsia: each big colour area has its own strand, linked where the colours meet. Each piece starts with a folded hem of rust and black sheep Léttlopi. The armholes and sleeve caps are shaped, the shoulders sewn, and the collar picked up around the fronts and back neck in Léttlopi: 8 cm of black sheep, a purl row, 8 cm of rust, folded in half and sewn down. Last, the sleeves are sewn in and the sides joined.

Why you'll love it
- The thaw in woolGlacier rivers, mudflats and moss melting together — the pattern’s picture of early spring.
- For the cold spellsThick Álafosslopi; the pattern says the thick wool hides the chill of the early spring rain.
- Big shapes, one colour at a timeIntarsia knitted back and forth — the pattern shows two ways to knit backwards so the right side can stay facing you.
- A collar lined in rust8 cm of black sheep and 8 cm of rust, folded in half, so the rust shows when the collar turns.
