Kisi — kitty: the kitties sneak around the city and leap through the lit windows into the warmth, as the pattern puts it. Védís Jónsdóttir’s zip-up children’s cardigan from Ístex’s Lopi 41, here in light grey with a black heather, air blue and white yoke.

How it is knitted
Body and sleeves are knitted in the round from striped 1×1 rib with a small border pattern above it, up to the underarms, with two purled stitches at centre front for a steek; then they are joined and the yoke is knitted in the round from a chart. Short rows raise the back of the neck, and the neckband is rib with a facing folded to the inside. The front is machine-stitched, cut open, and a zipper is sewn in by hand under the edges.

Which size should I knit?

Five sizes — 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 years — with a chest of 63, 68, 72, 77 and 81 cm and 22 to 30 cm from hem to underarm.

Do I have to cut my knitting?

Yes. Two purled stitches at centre front form a steek. You machine-stitch twice through them, cut between the rows, then sew the zipper by hand under the front edges; the folded neckband hides the top of the zipper.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit holds the amount for 6 years: 5 balls of light grey, 2 of black heather, 1 of air blue and 1 of white. 2 and 3 years use 3 light grey, 4 and 5 years 4; only 6 years needs the second black heather.

The pattern calls 0056 light grey — is it the same?

Yes. Colour 0056 is the shade we sell as ash heather; the colour number is the same as in the pattern.

What does the kit with needles include?

4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40 and 60 cm; 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles in 40 and 60 cm; 3.5 mm and 4.5 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, the sizes the pattern names. The zipper is not included.
