Handknit Fingerless Gloves -Free Knitting pattern Download

This free fingerless gloves knitting pattern is Writer’s warmers, designed by Védís Jónsdóttir for Ístex (leaflet LS-06). They are plain stocking-stitch hand warmers with a thumb, open at the fingers. One 50 g ball of Ístex Fjallalopi makes the pair.

About the fingerless gloves pattern

• Sizes S/M and L/XL: 21 cm long. The leaflet gives the width as 20 (23) cm; by our calculation from the gauge, that is all the way round the hand.
• Yarn: one 50 g ball of Fjallalopi. The leaflet prints no colour.
• Needles: double-pointed needles 3 mm (US 3) and 3.5 mm (US 4).
• Gauge: 22 stitches and 29 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.5 mm needles.

They are knitted in the round from the wrist; the round begins on the thumb side. You cast on 44 (50) stitches loosely, work 3 rounds of knit 1, purl 1 rib and knit to 14 cm. For the thumb you knit 7 (8) stitches with scrap yarn: the first stitches of the round on the right hand, the last on the left. At 20 cm you finish with 3 rounds of rib. Later you pick up 16 (18) thumb stitches around the scrap yarn and knit 10 rounds and 3 rounds of rib.

Knit it from a kit

Our fingerless gloves kit has the pattern and the yarn in one order. It comes in 3024 glacier sand, and you can pick another Fjallalopi colour on the kit page. The option with needles adds the 3 mm and 3.5 mm double-pointed needles.
