Snjóborg — Knitting pattern
Original design by: Védís Jónsdóttir
Snjóborg (“Snow City”) are classic stranded mittens worked in the round. Start with a snug rib in the contrast color, switch to the main color for the cuff, and then to larger needles for the hand. The chart positions a clean thumb gusset and balanced crown shaping so both sizes finish neatly. Detailed decrease rounds and thumb instructions make these a satisfying weekend project.

Construction
Cast on 44/48 sts with color B on 3 mm dpns; work k1, p1 rib for 3 rounds. Change to color A and knit to a 6 cm cuff, then to 3.5 mm needles and increase evenly 4 sts to 48/52. Work the hand from charts, increasing for the thumb gusset and placing 7/8 + 7/8 sts on scrap yarn at rounds 23/24. Continue the hand and work paired decreases on rounds 47/49, then every other and every round as charted to 8 sts; break yarn and draw through. For the thumb, pick up 18/20 sts including 4 between gusset and hand, knit 16/18 rounds, and work three quick decrease rounds to close. Weave in ends, rinse gently, and dry flat.
